Now that the new year is here in full swing, the next big holiday on the docket is Valentine's Day, which most people have a love-hate relationship with. If this year isn't looking like the kind of V-Day that will be accompanied with Prince Charming and a box of chocolates, you may be looking for a few alternate activities to escape from the lovey dovey overload. Whether you just need a way to unwind or a reason to hit the town, you can't go wrong with the following backup plans.
1. Hit the town. Put on your favorite shade of liquid eyeliner and curl those lashes and hit the town with a few of your single friends. After all, there's nothing more depressing than spending a Valentine's Day surrounded by doting couples, so you can avoid the experience altogether. Arrange a girl's night at your favorite restaurant where you can enjoy a few cocktails, a delicious meal and good conversation. It may not be the same as a romantic meal, but you might just attract the attention of another single stranger in the process!
2. Go for a record at the gym. There's nothing quite more effective at relieving stress and forgetting your cares than diving into a good workout. Bring a workout buddy along and try to hit a new record on the treadmill or try a new method of completing your exercise circuit. You may not have a date for this Valentine's Day, but you can have the peace of mind that you're putting in the work to turn some heads the next time you go out.
3. Take a trip to the ice skating rink. If you haven't had your fill of winter activities yet this season, this could be a wonderful chance to cut loose. Get together a group of your single friends, rent some skates and spend some time brushing up on your skating skills. Who knows, you may just take a spill and the man of your dreams will lend you a hand. A girl can dream can't she?
Valentine's Day is certainly a divisive holiday, so if you don't have a sweetheart to share it with this year, these alternative activities will give you and your single friends plenty to be excited about as the day approaches.
