Is imperfection the next big beauty trend?

It happens to all of us - you stayed out late the night before and realize that you've hit the snooze button one too many times the next morning. In a rush to get out the door, you quickly apply your lash curler and mascara before running out the door. But who says these mornings have to be such a stressful experience? According to the New York Times, the "just got back from the party" look could be the next big thing in 2012.

"Perfection got boring," Terry Barber, director of makeup artistry for MAC cosmetics, told the news source. That's not to say you can get away with leaving your hair unwashed and completely frayed, but a more relaxed approach to makeup application is just fine.

If you're not ready for such a fashion conceit, you can start simple. Instead of your usual mascara, try switching to a shade that matches your hair color. It won't jump out as much as what you're used to, but it could help you ease into this new approach to makeup. And if you can't bear the thought of abandoning the classic smoky eye, soften it up a bit here and there.
